Viewers and attendees will not want to miss the very special opening of the show, which celebrates the "Year of the Hawaiian", as officially proclaimed by Gov. David Ige in February. It begins with performances ranging from ancient times by a Merrie Monarch winner, to more recent times with past Nā Hōkū winners and current nominees, to an oli by a very special guest who will also co-host the show with Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts board member (and Hawai'i News Now award-winning news journalist) Ben Gutierrez!
In addition to the 36 awards that will be presented, there will be 15 live performances by a variety of artists. The always-exciting performances will again include pairings of current nominees either with each other or with industry icons. Some of those pairings this year include: Jack Johnson with Kawika Kahiapo, Paula Fuga, and Lopaka Colón; Nathan Aweau with Keauhou; Kamaka Kukona with Kimié; Napua with Josh Tatofi; and Pat Simmons, Jr. with Stef Mariani.
