Loa Greyson Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Fund Music Video of His New Single "Waiting For Me on the Shore"

Following the recent release of his single Waiting For Me on the Shore, Loa Greyson (also known as Tini Grey) has launched a kickstarter campaign to help fund an accompanying music video.

“I want this video to be a powerful and inspiring platform with a universal message for our time,” said Greyson. “"Waiting For Me on the Shore" encompasses how people living away from their native land may feel homesick and feel the need to reconnect with their core.” The goal for the video is to encourage all people, especially islanders, to embrace their culture, family, and community, especially in times of hardship and doubt.  Anaheim Studios’ Daley Hake and Aaron Huisman (best known for his work with superstars Michael Bublé and Josh Grobin) will produce the video.

Greyson released the single following an eventful year which included an appearance on NBC’s hit show “The Voice”. He traveled to Nashville to work with songwriter Chris Gelbuda (Meghan Trainor) who, along with GRAMMY® Award winner Tim Fagan (whose hits include the Colbie Caillat/Jason Mraz duet “Lucky” and John Mayer’s “Deeper”), wrote Waiting For Me on the Shore. The song is striking a chord with islanders now living far from home, evoking both memories of that home and the excitement of returning there. His appearance on “The Voice” also struck a chord with young musicians, who contacted him to say he had inspired them to do things they never thought possible. (One of those he’s been talking with is Joe Tolo, a talented young Samoan-born contestant who made it as far as The Voice’s “knockout round” this season.)

Well-known in Hawai’i as Tini Grey, Greyson first recorded as a member of the popular Polynesian R&B group Reign on their self-titled album (with fellow Reign members Kale Chang, Loa Faimealelei, Afatia Thompson, and Kuhio Yim).  Upon moving to Southern California with wife Angela Baraquio Grey (Miss America 2001) and family, Greyson released a solo EP (Better Place, 2011), a full-length, all original solo album (Shades of Grey, released to critical acclaim in 2012), and a Christmas album (Thoughts of Christmas, 2013). In addition to Waiting For Me on the Shore, he recently released another single – a remixed version of his popular song Company from Shades of Grey, sung in both English and Reo Tahiti (the Tahitian language) in a more upbeat tempo.

The Waiting For Me on the Shore kickstarter campaign can be found here.

The Waiting For Me on the Shore single is available on Loa’s  website    (where you can also listen to the entire song) and on iTunes .

Bryan Tolentino and Herb Ohta, Jr. Release “‘Ukulele Friends” Album!

At long last, long-time friends and celebrated ‘ukulele artists Bryan Tolentino and Herb Ohta, Jr. team up to bring us an instrumental collection of twelve popular Hawaiian and Hapa Haole melodies: “’Ukulele Friends”,  set for release April 14, 2015.

Bryan and Herb first met in 1995, when Herb was working at Harry’s Music in Honolulu. A self-taught ‘ukulele player, Bryan began playing at age 10. Son of acclaimed `ukulele virtuoso Herb “Ohta-san” Ohta, Herb began playing at age three - and teaching at age nine.

Bryan had formed the group Side Order Band right out of high school with friends  Del Beazley,  Chris Kamaka, and Asa Young. Performing six  nights per week, the young group also traveled with then-Governor George Ariyoshi to Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore to promote tourism in Hawai’i. The trip included a performance for the King of Malaysia – a major highlight.

While continuing to play with the Side Order Band, Bryan also spread his wings and began performing with many of Hawai’i’s most well-known and award-winning musicians and hula hālau, from Aunty Genoa Keawe to Karen Keawehawai’i, Jerry Santos and Olomana, Natalie Ai Kamauu, Napua Greig, Kuana Torres Kahele, Aaron Sala, Weldon Kekauoha, Hoku Zuttermeister and many more. He also found himself in growing demand for his contributions to dozens of recordings, and he released his own solo album, “Ka ‘Ukulele Lele” in 2005.

While Bryan was busy performing both locally and abroad, Herb was performing as a member of the prestigious Honolulu Boy Choir, the Honolulu Children’s Opera Chorus, and the University High School Select Choir. He also began teaching at his father’s ‘ukulele school, and later started his own ‘ukulele classes. He subsequently advanced to writing new songs, entertaining audiences at private and public functions, producing, and recording. Now an accomplished producer, composer, and instructor, and considered one of today’s most prolific ʻukulele masters, Herb has numerous awards and over 50 recordings to his credit, including ten solo albums and eleven duets; three with six-time Grammy® Award winner Daniel Ho, three with five-time Grammy® Award winner Keoki Kahumoku, two with his father, Ohta-san, two with multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner and former Pure Heart front-man Jon Yamasato, and one with multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner, composer, actor, producer, director, and kumu hula Tony Conjugacion.

Having become friends after their initial meeting in 1995, Bryan and Herb talked on and off of writing a song together - until one day in 1997 when they were sitting on a bench at Blaisdell Park. They composed the song “Gm [G Minor] Fleas” (“in about 10 minutes”), and later recorded it on Herb’s 2001 album “ʻUkulele Dream,” where it quickly became a fan favorite. Having appeared on at least four other recordings, “Gm Fleas” makes a return appearance on this new album – this time with special guest Jake Shimabukuro.

The two have been talking about doing something else together ever since. It only took them 18 years...

Originally from California, Iʻve lived on Oʻahu for a number of years. Music has always been my passion and Iʻm fortunate to be able to work with and support many of Hawaiʻiʻs musicians. For such a tiny speck in the middle of a very large ocean, we have an amazing wealth of talent  here!
