Kaumakaiwa Kanakaʻole, a five-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano (Hawaiian Grammy®) Award-winner (including Male Vocalist of the Year), also has deep roots in hula. He was raised in a hula tradition and with Hawaiian cultural practices and teachings that span many generations. He is the eldest son of Kekuhi Kanahele, the eldest grandchild of Pualani Kanaka‘ole Kanahele, great grandson of Edith Kanahele Kanaka‘ole, and great-great grandson of Mary Keali‘ikekuewa. He has been involved with the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival since he was 12. He released his debut album in 2003, followed by albums in 2005 and 2008. He is currently working on an album with his mother, Kekuhi. A single from that album is available here.
Shawn Pimental is a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning producer and musician. He has produced and toured with many of Hawaiʻi’s top artists, including Nā Palapalai, Na Leo, John Cruz, Jake Shimabukuro, Kaumakaʻiwa Kanakaʻole, and many more. He has opened for national acts such as Janet Jackson, Color Me Badd, Steel Pulse, Maxi Priest, Morgan Heritage, Shaggy, Third World, Hoobastank, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Expose, and more. He owns Koops2 Entertainment (record label) and is co-owner of Studio Ala Moana.
