Southern California is one of THE places to be for Hawaiian (and other) music over the next week! Here are is a sampling of events: The Makaha Sons play Whittier College Saturday January 18 . (There are still a few tickets available for both shows!) The Southern California Slack Key Festival (with Cyril Pahinui, Kawika Kahiapo, Jeff Peterson, Jerry Santos, Sonny & Lorna Lim, and more) is Sunday January 19. Steven Espaniola with Bryan Tolentino, Chris Kamaka, Hale Seabury, and Asa Young play Bruddahʻs Bar and Grill Saturday January 25. The NAMM Show (National Association of Music Merchants) takes place January 23-26 in Anaheim, with many top-name musicians from Hawaiʻi and around the world in attendance and playing at various booths – as well as at concerts in the surrounding area... Here is a listing (by day, for 5 days) of just SOME of the concert happenings. And of course, the GRAMMY® Awards take place Sunday, January 26, with our very own Grammy®-nominated Kahulanui in attendance! (Their album “Hula Kuʻi” is nominated in the Regional Roots category.) The band will then do a short tour of California - see my previous post for info. |
